                         Newsletter: April 2008

Hi all, I want to sincerely apologise for the delay in getting a newsletter published until now and also apologise for any inconvenience it may have caused you? As some of you know we have had some sad issues to deal with over the last few months and we hope that in a few months we can put them all behind us? May and I cannot thank you enough for the very sincere and kind support you have shown us. Thank you for your lovely support in making the classes and socials such a lot of fun. It’s brilliant the atmosphere you all create. Thinking about that, an idea was put to us with regard to the charity fundraising you support so lovely during the Christmas parties etc which was to have a hobbies display prior to one of the Saturday evenings, with any donations dropped in the collection boxes being put towards the total you raised at the Christmas parties. We’ve only to think about Ron and his amazing skill at model making, Keith, another master craftsman, and his wonderful rocking horses etc and also Olive, with her wonderful artistic work. It could be great to get the chance for friends to see these lovely skills? I also thought that as so many of you take some wonderful photographs of the parties, trips etc it would be nice if we had a display of photographs from the many events you have recorded over the years. I hope we can put this together sometime? If you are interested in helping with this please let us know so we can arrange rooms required etc and hopefully make it a bit of a party night and raise a bit more for a local charity? It could be a lot of fun? Before I go onto the remaining dates for 2008 we really are so very sorry that festival dates this year have been so close together and have messed up our Saturday nights at Hessle Town Hall. The main factors that caused this were, with Easter coming so early and, Double H’s dates having to be altered along with one of their venues, namely, Hemsby. They have moved to another location a bit further south called Walton on the Naze.  As you know we had a lovely time up in Dunoon and I do hope everyone enjoyed it but I do appreciate that some were put off from this second trip because of the length of the trip? Bearing this in mind and the fact that the Dunoon area and the hotel are lovely, it would be nice to try somewhere else more accessible? With this in mind we found a lovely hotel a short distance from Edinburgh, it’s The King Robert at Bannockburn. It can only cater for two coaches so do let us know as soon as possible if you are interested.

As you know a gang of us went over to Texas in March touring from Ft. Worth/Dallas to Lubbock for the George Strait Concert (and what a concert it was!) then down to San Antonio and Corpus Christi. It really was a beautiful experience, and following the trip, I have received a number of enquiries about another trip. So my thinking caps back on to try and work something out?

As you are well aware Queen’s Garden festival didn’t take place this year due to lack of funding, to avoid losing our event they asked me to combine it with the Lord Mayor’s Gala Day on May 3rd in East Park. With it clashing with our Lakes trip I asked Hilary to cover the event in East Park for us.  From what I hear it turned out to be a very good one, so thanks all round to everyone involved. After the big success of the Lakes trip and the calls to go back there we are now sorting out arrangements for a return trip and will let you know about it as soon as possible.

We’ve been asked to run an open to all line dance session on Saturday July 5th at Cottingham Civic Hall. It’s all part of the annual Cottingham Day festivities and everyone is invited, so if you fancy coming along it would be great to see you. Also, if you wish, and turn up before 11 am, you have been invited to join in the parade. There are all sorts going on so you could be in for a great day.
